Morgan Henzlik

What are the biggest trends for Spring 2015? Morgan Henzlik gives us an insider's look.

Blayne Macauley March 11, 2015

The best thing about writing this blog is that it gives me an excuse to befriend people I think are cool.  Like, it's very easy for me to write someone an email I sort of know and say, "Hey, remember me?  I write a blog now and think you're awesome, so lets have a drink."

That's exactly what happened with Morgan Henzlik.  We both went to Westminster, and I knew her by name.  I was a little shy/unsure of myself in high school, and I never would have had the guts to just go up to someone and ask to be their friend.  As luck would have it, we both beame friends with Nikole Morrow-Pettus, the most talented make up artist in the city (cross my heart.  She works at Van Michael Buckheadand will change you life).  Nikole reminded me about Morgan and that in the 10+ years since high school, she'd grown into an Atlanta style icon.  Seriously.  She now owns Morgan Kylee, a boutique where the who's who of Atlanta shops.

A few weeks ago I did write that email to Morgan and we met for a drink.   Morgan came in wearing a leather hat and military shirt and looked effortlessly cool.  Since then we've met several times and she always looks flawless.  I've decided in my next life I want to come back and own Morgan Kylee.  Doesn't that just sound like the best job ever?

10 Questions with Artist Hailey Lowe Fennell

Blayne Macauley March 10, 2015

It's a family affair here on TPL!  Today I'm featuring Hailey Lowe Fennell, daughter of Janey Lowe and sister of Elise Baumann :)  Hailey is an extremely talented artist from Atlanta.  I met Hailey a few years ago, and she helped me realize my dream of getting artwork into a gallery, for which I will forever be thankful.  At that time she was in graduate school at SCAD and doing the most interesting projects.

Hailey now lives and works in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. It's been such a joy to watch her grow and become the artist she is today.  She has paintings at Gregg Irby here in Atlanta.  She is also an instillation artist and did a fascinating exploration of animal interactions with technology, which became her "Machines of Loving Grace" film and video still series.

Stan Dixon Exterior

Love at First Sight: A Stan Dixon Masterpiece.

Blayne Macauley March 6, 2015

It is VERY rare for me to fall in love with a house at first sight.  Are there beautiful homes that I shoot and fall in in love with?  Yes. That's the whole basis for this blog; however, it is very very rare that I drive up to a home and fall head over heels in love before I even walk through the front door.  In fact, I can name them on one hand.  Our new house, this Neel Reid home designed by by Margaux Interiors, a Keith Summerour home I shot a few years ago, and this Stan Dixon masterpiece we are currently discussing.
