Atlanta Architect Henri Jova's 5 Level Italian Masterpiece!

Blayne Macauley October 16, 2015

Architect Henri Jova lived and worked here in Atlanta and helped shape the architectural landscape of Midtown.  His personal home in Midtown was one of the first homes I shot as an architectural photographer, and I've been intrigued by him ever since. (Shown below)

In addition to residential projects in Midtown and throughout the city, he was the lead designer on many historic properties around town you may know.

When Glennis Beacham got a Henri Jova listing in Winterthur, I was excited to shoot it.  I was expecting a midcentury modern masterpiece, but what I found was something entirely different.

This gated home is located on over 7 acres is and 5 levels tall.

There is elevator access to all five levels.  The main living areas are on the fourth level.  There is a large master suite with two bedrooms, kitchen, living and dining room.  Additional levels offer private guest suites, a movie theater, wine cellar, two bars and a separate three bedroom apartment. There is also a large pool house.  This place is perfect for living on one level or having many guests or children who want their own space.  Shooting this house was like walking through a museum.  I loved it!  There was so much to discover.  It was such a big shoot that it took two days, and on the second day Rod Collins and I tag teamed it, so some of the photos are his :)

One interesting thing about this house is that I said it reminds me of Palm Beach, but Glennis insists it's Italian (I realize those are not mutually exclusive).  When I went online to prove my point, I found that Jova moved to Palm Beach to retire... sooooo that basically means I'm right... right?  What do you guys think?

So what do you think about the architectural style?  Italian, or Palm Beach? :)  Leave your answer in the comment section.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
