I Fell Down a Rabbit Hole of Beauty: the renovation of a Victorian farmhouse

Blayne Macauley June 7, 2017

My mom grew up in rural south Georgia, and I spent my childhood going there to visit her family.  Her brother, my uncle, bought a large white house in a small Georgia town.  He spent time fixing the house, and as a child we would meet there for holidays.  I loved that house.  The width of the stairway.  The coziness of the kitchen.  The side porch.  The size of the rooms.  I should have know then that I was headed for a lifelong love affair with houses.

Last night I couldn't really sleep (I was too excited - see update at the bottom of this post), so I was trolling Instagram as per usual.  I've gotten really into photos of houses, vintage rugs and succulents (shocker), so my suggested feed is full of the most beautiful photos.  Last night I came across one that really got my attention, and I fell down a rabbit hole of beauty. Stephanie (@thevictorianfarmhouse) lives with her family outside of Wisconsin and documents the restoration of her 1892 Victorian Farmhouse.  I love both her taste in houses and style of photography.

Below are some of my favorite photos of the home in its current state.  Stephanie and her husband are clearly very talented.  I love how clean and simple it is.  It feels perfectly updated yet still historically accurate.  That's a hard look to achieve.

The light and architectural details are phenomenal. Stephanie has a beautiful blog (here) and instagram (here).  She's continuing to work on the house, and I can't wait to see the final chapter.  Thank you Stephanie for letting me feature your lovely home!
