Win Dinner at Mi Cocina, where I saw Owen Wilson last night! + 30 Days of Giveaways + The Whiskey Gentry
So… day one of the no fried food+no wine challenge, and Lindley and I decide to go to dinner. On the way Jimmy called and suggested we all go to Mi Cocina.
Throw us into the fire pit why don’t you? JK… we love Mexican food, and I’d heard via Twitter (@restaurantsatl) that Mi Cocina was the hottest place in town… and twitter doesn’t lie.
How do I know? Owen Wilson was there!!!
Wait, WHAT? Yes, it’s true.
I’ll start at the beginning…
Lindley and Jimmy and I met up and walked over to Mi Cocina, where we ran into none other than @restaurantsatl himself, who was there for a tweet up. He suggested the Mambo Taxi margarita and the Sunset Style Fajitas. YUM
We went to sit at the bar and grab a drink while we waited (5 minutes-so short) for our table.
I opted for the Skinny Margarita and Lin for a Bloody Mary since the Mambo Taxi had wine in it. (Honestly, it sounded so good we discussed having a big wine/tortilla chip blow out and starting the challenge today, but we stayed strong).
Lucky for us the Skinny Margarita and the Blood Marys were exceptional. Honestly, the Skinny Margarietta may be the best one I’ve every had… a title previously held by Cantina in Buckhead.
In a few short minutes our buzzer went off, and we made our way to the table… when I almost ran into Owen Wilson!!!! No kidding. It was so strange. It was definitely my best celeb sighting ever. Since I almost walked into him, I got a very good view of his face. I didn’t recognize him right away. I mean, I knew that I knew him from somewhere, but it took about 3 seconds for me to realize it was Owen Wilson. I have a HUGE celeb crush on Owen, and when it dawned on me who it was I looked like this…
Jimmy def made fun of me for my “star struck” face.
Once we set down we were about 2 tables away from him, and I just COULD NOT stop starring. Jimmy and Lindley were chatting about their best celeb sightings, but I was having mine right then. I mean, he looked just the same as he does in the movies, which I guess is a no brainer, but it was shocking none the less. I kept trying to hear his voice, but he was just a little too far away.
I grabbed Lindley’s phone and took a picture, which made Jimmy and Lindley want to crawl under the table… but he was RIGHT THERE. I just had to document it. BTW, he was partaking in a Mambo Taxi.
I was able to break my eyes away for long enough to order the Fajitas and take a quick pic… but then it was right back to stare city.
The food arrived quickly, and it was delicious. Everything on the table was fantastic. To remind myself, I just heated up the leftovers and had them for lunch… and it was still great!!
As a self-proclaimed Atlanta Mexican food expert, I give Mi Cocina an A+. They earned their “+” because the waitstaff was so wonderful about my gluten sensitivity! All I had to do was say I was gluten-free and they fixed my entire order. When you have tons of food allergies, you really really appreciate places that go the extra mile.
We were seated right by the door, so I got an extra long stare when Owen and his entourage got up to leave. Honestly, I was embarrassing myself… but who the heck cares? I’ll probably never get that chance again, so I wanted to soak up every second.
Alright alright… I’m sure you’re thinking, “that sounds great, how can I earn a free dinner/chance to sy Owen myself?”

And finally… truly, the biggest announcement of the day… Whiskey Gentry is going to play a private show for us at our rehearsal dinner. Yep. Best wedding present in the entire world. I cannot think of anything better. I’m such a lucky girl… Thank you so much to Lauren and Jason of TWG for making it happen, and an even bigger thank you to THE BEST IN-LAWS in the universe. Thank you so much Molly and Jack. I can’t wait!!!!!
