It’s that time again! “The Beacham Series” magazine is in full production mode for our Fall 2012 issue, which promises to be the best ever!

“The Beacham Series” showcases the finest homes for sale in Atlanta real estate. This award-winning publication has a distribution of 21,000, including direct mail delivery to the most affluent households in Atlanta real estate as well as more than 1,500 luxury real estate brokerages in 63 countries.

In other news… this weekend Jimmy and I went to Palm Beach to visit his Grandma.  The three of us were taking a little walk after lunch when we passed the Escada Store.  In my very own Pretty Woman/Princess moment, we went in and the sales women were nice enough to let me try on this dress.  It was incredible.  These were the nicest things I’ve ever worn.  It was such a fun moment for the three of us and totally made my weekend…

The textiles are available to the trade only but Gramercy carries ready made pillows here in Atlanta.

I went down to shoot the house right before Christmas and was so impressed!

The idea behind the home, designed by Kemp Hall Studios, was to create a “modern farmhouse.”

This is the formal entry.

I love these stairs.  They reminded me of the stairway in the vampire’s house from Twilight (amazing modern home).

The kitchen is located in the heart of the home.  The cabinets are made of Hickory wood and were constructed in Atlanta.  The kitchen was designed by interior designer Linda Woodrum.  The dining area flows seamlessly into the living room.

The tile is a mixture of travertine and glass, and the floating display shelves make the space really interesting (see right side of this photo).

I love the wood slat walls here…

and all the natural light from the sliding glass doors that open to an outdoor sitting area.

This is a view from the porch into the kitchen.  Sliding doors throughout the home make it feel much larger than it is and make it an indoor/outdoor space.

The patio off of the kitchen offers an open air space for grilling and eating.

To the left you can see the doors to the kitchen, and to the right you can see a large family room.

I love the fireplace in the family room, because on a day like today you could have the doors open and the fire going.  It serves as both a glassed in and open porch.

This orange study located on the main level is right up my alley.  I love the interior design.

The master bedroom is located on the main level.  It opens to a fenced in area with lounge chars and the cutest dog house I’ve ever seen.

Can you see Nan’s cute little dog, Channing, who joined us for the photo shoot?

He got tired and decided to take a snooze in this custom-built dog house.

Finally we end up in the master bath with a walk-in dual shower and Carrera marble.

This bedroom is located upstairs…

and this art area/children’s work station is built into the hallway leading to an additional bedroom.

This cool bunk room is at the other end of the hall.  Since I was curious, I climbed right up to the top up there, where there was a tv with a PlayStation, two beanbags and of course the pail attached to a string for snacks.  I got so jealous.  I would love to hang out up there!

I’ve been on a bit of a health documentary kick.  I’ve always been extremely interested in health and medicine.  My grandfather (pictured above at the Beacham & Company opening party in 2006) was a doctor at the Mayo Clinic, and medicine fascinates me.  Recently I’ve been obsessed with the idea that people can use food as medicine.  I went to see Dr. Bhatia, a holistic doctor here in Atlanta, because my friend recommended her, she went to Westminster, and she was on Dr. Oz (the main reason o went).  She is a doctor at the Atlanta Center for Holistic Medicine.    I could not have been more impressed.  She’s helped me so much.  After all the food allergy testing she recommended I stop eating gluten, dairy, strawberries and cucumbers. I’ve been doing that for about 2 months now, and I swear to you that I’ve never felt better.  I can feel SO much better just by controlling what I eat.  I used to crave things like macaroni and cheese and fried okra, but I don’t even want them anymore because they make me feel so bad.  If you have any sort of digestive problems or headaches I could not recommend her more strongly.

The idea that food affect the way you feel so much is eye fascinating.  Since I’ve seen such drastic results from my own experience, I’ve been really interested in learning more about it. To that end, Jimmy and I have been on a bit of a health documentary kick.  While you’re at home with your family watching Miracle on 34th Street, were at home searching our Apple TV for more and more documentaries  This weekend Jimmy and I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. 

We really enjoyed it.  The film is about the health benefits from juicing.  Before watching this film I sort of thought juicing was a hoax.  I was a big believer that it’s healthier to just eat the fruits and vegetables or mix them in a smoothie so that you get all the fiber as well as the vitamins and minerals.  I’m not really sure if you lose fiber when you juice the fruits and vegetables, but I am convinced that juicing is exceptionally beneficial for your health.  The main character in the film lost @60 lbs, and the secondary character lost @100.  That would obviously get anyone’s attention, but the resounding message of the film was the health benefits.  After a 60 day juice fast both men were able to get off all their medications.  They reversed heart desease and diabetes.

100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn’t end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn’t far behind. What emerges is nothing short of amazing – an inspiring tale of healing and human connection.
Part road trip, part self-help manifesto, FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD defies the traditional documentary format to present an unconventional and uplifting story of two men from different worlds who each realize that the only person who can save them is themselves.

Even if you have no intention of trying juicing, you should watch this film for the inspiring message of two men saving their own lines.  Jimmy and I loved it.  It’s the best food related documentary I’ve seen since Super Size Me (which I loved and have watched several times.)

I’ve watched both Food, Inc. and Vegucated, but I didn’t love them.  I’d much rather a documentary promote the health benefits of a plant-based diet than guilt you to death by showing you slaughter houses.  It just makes me so sad to see that, but maybe not enough to stop eating meat.

Last night I put on Forks Over Knives while Jimmy was writing Thank You Notes, which I’ve been begging him to do.  I thought I could just sit there and watch and he could totally zone it out, but it wasn’t 5 minutes before he abandoned the project and snuck over to sit beside me on the couch.  I don’t even blame him.  The documentary was incredible.  Click here to read a synopsis.   If you are interested at all in documentaries, holistic medicine, vegetarianism or juicing, I give both of these documentaries my 100% seal of approval.

You may or may not be tempted to change the way you eat, but I think it’s always better to be safe than sorry, so bottoms up!

As I was writing this post I got the following email:

Please help Daisy if you can.  She was dropped off at my vet’s office last night when I was picking one of my cat’s up.  She was going to be put down by the owner’s son because he didn’t want to “fool with her” and his mother, who was the owner, had passed away.  She is so sweet, but obviously grieving for her owner and just needs someone to quietly love her for her remaining years.  She is going to be vetted today, but she has been well taken care of until this man got her, and appears to be in good health except for some arthritis.  I can’t imagine what she may be going through to have lost the only caregiver she has ever known, and then to be dumped off to be euthanized.  I just could not let them do it so I brought her home and my neighbor is keeping her for the time, but she and I both have a multiple pet household.  If you know of anyone who can help this little angel, I know their life (and hers) would be so enriched by it.  Please circulate.  Thank you.

The Four Seasons is the best hotel in Atlanta in my opinion.  Did you guys know Jimmy works there?   When we first started dating he took me to dinner in the restaurant Park 75.  It was probably the best dinner I’ve ever had!  He won the dinner, so we were able to order everything we wanted to try (it was such a cool experience for one of our first dates!).  We both got incredible steaks (I swear… they were better than Hal’s!) and then loaded up on like 5 sides, which you can do when you first start dating someone and aren’t trying to fit into a wedding dress .

The servers recommended two (yes… 2…) exceptional bottles of wine.  We sat there for hours eating this unbelievable food and drinking wine and enjoying getting to know each other.  It’s one of those nights I always hold onto in my memory and know I’ll look back on for the rest of my life.

Jimmy’s parent’s usually stay at the Four Seasons when they come to Atlanta to visit us.  Last time when they were here for the engagement party we all met up in the Park 75 Lounge and Terrace for a drink.  It’s such a cozy and comfortable place to get together with people.  We all loved looking over the seasonal drink menu.  Jimmy ended up ordering a drink that was made of whisky.  I don’t even like whisky, but the drink was unbelievable.  I, of course, had a nice glass of red wine.  And before I forget, the bar snacks were amazing.  Jimmy and I always comment on how good the bar snacks are at all the Four Seasons.  The ones in Atlanta are spiced nuts I think.  At the Four Seasons in DC the bar snack is some sort of spicy Chex mix, and Jimmy’s sisters and I ate 4-ish bowls one night while we were waiting to meet everyone for dinner…

Anyway, it may sound funny to be talking about how good the bar mix is, but that’s what’s so great about Four Seasons.  They don’t overlook anything!  They think of everything you could possibly want, and it’s already there.  I’m so spoiled to be able to be at the Four Seasons as often as I am.  I’ve had the fortune throughout my life to travel to many fine hotels around the world, but it wasn’t until I met Jimmy that I really learned how good a hotel can be.  I cannot even think of enough good things to say about it, which is why you should go visit for yourself

Next, I wanted to show you a house I photographed recently. Nan Haverty has it listed, and it’s located at 1956 West Wesley Road.  It’s unique because it’s at the quiet end of West Wesley, so there is tremendous privacy.  There are 7 Bedrooms, and the house feels like new construction!  There is a large master suite on the main with his and her closets and a fireplace.  All the French doors on the back of the home open to outdoor spaces.  There is a large lagoon pool in the back with plenty or areas for entertaining.  I really enjoyed shooting it.
