I can hear it now… ”oh, your Valentine’s Day was just so great because it was your first one. Wait until you get older, Valentine’s Day is the worst.”

Well… whatever.

It was my first Valentine’s Day with Jimmy, and it was perfect. Couldn’t have been better… so sorry to all you guys who hate Valentines Day. You can stop reading now.

If you Love Love (Ginny Branch), you can read on…

We started our weekend by going to see Trey Anastasio (lead singer of Jimmy’s number one love, PHISH) perform with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. It was a great show. Trey preformed many classic Phish tunes such as YEM and Divided Sky. He also preformed some songs by the Trey Anastasio Band. It was interesting hearing all the songs changed form their traditional arrangements into orchestral pieces. I liked Water in the Sky best. It was such a beautiful song.

Another highlight of the evening was this violinist’s sweet Prada shoes. I was captivated…

A couple in the back got engaged dring the show, which was such a special moment. Trey congratulated them and dedicated YEM to them, where he teased “Here Comes the Bride.” I am into romantic stuff, so I thought was was really special.

Speaking of romantic things, Friday Jimmy sent me these beautiful flowers…

Didn’t he do a great job? Along with the flowers came tickets to Willie Nelson. NO WAY!!!???!!!

Seeing Willie Nelson was on my bucket list. Did you know he is 79 years old? Can you believe it? I had never seen him live and was dying to see him when he was at the Tabernacle. Jimmy surprised me with tickets, and we went Sunday night.

Since seeing Willie Nelson was such a huge deal for me, I was fairly panicked about what I could do for Jimmy that could even come close to matching that. Luckily I had the stroke of genius to call Nan Haverty, one of our agents here at Beacham & Company. Nan and I do a lot of work together with me photographing her listings. Her husband helped develop Serenbe, which is a sustainable community in Palmetto, GA. There is a great town square with wonderful food and shops. There is also a wide spectrum of real estate and a horse barn with ample acreage. I asked her a for a HUGE FAVOR. I asked if it would be ok for Jimmy and me to stay in her house at Serenbe for Valentines Day.

9015 Selborne Lane is currently for sale and is absolutely breathtaking. I was so thankful when she said Jimmy and I could stay there!

That just left one more thing I needed to figure out, a Valentine’s present for Jimmy. I thought and thought about it, and solicited help from all of his friends (sorry– I am very annoying).

I was so excited about Jimmy’s present I almost couldn’t stand the ride to Serenbe… As soon as we walked in, I put in on the breakfast table and made him open it.

A record player? WHAT?!? I know!!! Isn’t that an awesome present? I know what you’re thinking, “How could someone who loves music that much not own a record player?” I was confused myself. After exhaustive research I settled on this Hype record player from Urban Outfitters. Pros: it’s portable, it has built in speakers, it has an AUX out so it can be plugged into surround sound, it looks cool. Cons: It’s fairly cheap and can break easily. It was the best choice for me at the time, and Jimmy thinks it was the right one, SO YEA BLAYNE. In addition to this record player I gave him my entire collection of records, which has taken a lifetime to build. It includes classic albums by artists such as: The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Pure Prairie Legue, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Jimmy Buffett. Yea, I know, I am an amazing girlfriend.

It seems Jimmy thinks so as well…

See how happy he is? I know. It’s pretty cute.

After present opening time we went to The Hil Restaurant, which was amazing.

Yea for Valentine’s dinner!

These were homemade potato chips with Vidalia onion dip! yum.

After dinner we went back to Nan’s house where I got excited about how beautiful it looked at night, so I took a few pictures. You can see Jimmy walking on the porch in that picture if you look closely.

Isn’t that breathtaking?

This is a view of the pool house from the house at night.

This was the view this morning outside my room to the pool house. Doesn’t that look peaceful?

While Jimmy packed the car, I walked around to the front of the house and took this picture.

And then walked up to the front porch to see this view. I could have stayed forever, but alas, we both had to get back to work.

I made Jimmy stop the car to get this shot. Photographers say that the best time to take pictures are at dawn and dusk. Since I make it a rule to only be awake for one of those times, I was taking full advantage of the light this morning…

We waved good bye to these guys as we pulled away…

and caught our last glimpse of the country as we made our way back to the highway.

Cheers to an amazing first Valentines Day Jimmy. I’m so in love with you.

-Blayne

P.S. Nan, thank you so much for making this little trip possible. Your home is so beautiful, and we were so lucky to get to stay there! You’re the best!

Hey kids. Did you all have a nice weekend? I sure did. I went down to spend time with my cousins in Warner Robbins. I always feel better after a little family time.

Yesterday my good friend Katie Oblinger did a photo shoot with Jimmy and me. She is an amazing baby photographer and trying to get into couples photography. She asked if we would mind being her “test couple.” Turns out Jimmy and I are really Hammy with the camera.

So Hammy that I forced Katie to iPhone picture me a picture from her camera. I am sooo excited. A lot of times when I take pictures for people and they ask me over and over when they will be ready I’m like, “just give me a little time.” Well, now I AM one of those people! I am just sitting around twirling hair waiting to see those pictures! Ha Ha.

While I am twirling I thought I would show you some pictures from the home of another ham… this puppy!

705 Norfleet, NW (Listed by Rachel Farmer) is home to one of the cutest dogs ever… and the fact that he loves being in pictures makes him even cuter.

Rachel asked me to come take photos of this beautiful newer (2008) home located in the sought-after neighborhood of Springlake. I was immediately drawn to the large front porch across the front of the home. I was also drawn to the little dog hanging out on the front porch. Can you see him? It’s the little white spot right at the bottom of the front door.

This dining room opens right out on the the front porch. It would be perfect for the type of weather we are having right now in Atlanta!

This living room/office also opens to the front porch. The wall on the right pops out and reveals a work space behind them. It is such a great idea!

There’s my little friend again hanging out by the front door. Don’t you love that stairway? The railings are beautiful! I also like those stools a lot.

The kitchen in this home is amazing. Those glass cabinets on the right are so cool. I’m not sure I’ve seen any like them. Check out the red knobs on the stove. What a fun pop of color!

This family room is located right off the kitchen… and guess what’s to the right?

This beautiful porch! Is that perfection or what? I know where I would be spending all my time!

The master also opens up to it’s own private porch. Can you have too many porches? In a word, no.

Here we are on the master porch. Since you all know how much I enjoy a glass of wine… wouldn’t this be a perfect place for one? I thought so!

To see more of this home, including the beautifully finished terrace level, check out the listing here.

See you guys later… I will be trying to find other ways to occupy my time while I wait for those pictures!!

The 2012 Cathedral Antiques Show (Cathedral of St. Philips) is this weekend! It starts off Friday night with this kickin’ party.

You may see that I’m on the host committee… duh. Do you see all the great people on the committee… it was an honor to even be asked.

Why should you come?

If you’re a girl: Free drinks makes shopping for antiques EVEN MORE fun than it already is!! I don’t know about you, but getting to shop after having a drink or two is one of my very favorite past times (and also how I ended up with my fave Tory Burch wallet).

If you’re a guy in a relationship: You get to drink WHILE making your sig other VERY happy. It works out well for everyone.

If you’re a single guy: Tipsy/happy girls surrounded by antiques? Does it get any better?

So come.

As if you even NEEDED another reason (so overkill), you get to shop for antiques from these fine dealers…

And you get to help out a charity, AADD. YEA!!!

Also, here is a pretty dress I like. It has nothing to do with this weekend, but it is a delight for the eyes. I stole it from my friend Dani’s pinterest. #copycat

Source: d-ance.tumblr.com via Flockin on Pinterest

And finally…. two very important ladies in my family are about to pop with babies!!!

First, Holly, my cousin’s wonderful wife, is minutes away from birthing a beautiful baby girl, Olivia. I am so excited. I can’t wait to see her!

This is the sweet cake from her baby shower a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I had to work (wanh wanh) and wasn’t able to taste it. I’m kicking myself. That looks amazing. Hurry up Olivia, we all want to meet you!

The second baby is a boy cooking in my total nut of a cousin Caroline’s stomach. Fine Caroline, you’re not a nut. Just a trip. (love you)

Her sweet sister (soon to be aunt) is about to explode she is so excited for little Davis Peavy to bust on the scene. We are throwing her a baby shower this weekend, so I am excited for some much needed family time. Family time=party time.

Thank God for babies and family!

Have a nice weekend everyone

I’ve always fancied myself a little farm-ie…

Here I am in college with my rabbit, Napoleon. I bought this little guy without telling my mom… not smart. Then he grew to be like 8 lbs and would chew up all the wires/hardwoods in my apartment. I really loved him and was able to tolerate it, but as soon as I moved back in with my mom on Habersham we had to find Napoleon a new home. Bummer.

Here I am holding a goat. Classic. If I had a back yard big enough you better believe I would have my own goat. How cute is he??

And who could forget the great chicken experiment of 2010?

I got 8 of these little fellows… and 5 of them were… well, fellows. That left me with three of the meanest hens you’ve ever met.

See, she’s plotting to peck my eyes out. Kidding… kind of. It turns out chickens don’t really love being raised in the city on a concerte slab. They would much rather be out in the country… like me.

If I had my own farm I could own all the crazy animals I wanted, thus I was THRILLED when Nan Haverty asked me to go shoot her new farm near Serenbe. (Hey, you never know when the opportunity might present itself and you just NEED to buy a farm.)

8275 Chochan Mill was exactly what I was looking for in a farm property. I love that wide front porch!

Here is the barn, which is located just steps from the main house.

Of course I had to get a peak inside. Don’t hate me, but I am not a huge fan of horses. I had a scary experience riding one once when I was little and have never really had any desire to climb aboard… that being said I do think they are beautiful and love watching them… from afar. BTW, there is an artist studio in the attic space of this barn, so go ahead and sign me up for spending time in there!

There are acres and acres of horse paddocks behind the house. We walked back so you could see the home, barn and garage/guest house. The homeowner told me that every night she pours herself a glass of wine and walks around the property checking the fences. I’m sorry, but how pleasant does that sound?

I was really impressed by the inside of the house. It was so bright and comfortable!

Isn’t that great?

Digging this fireplace in the master!

This is the perfect place to cook meals for your family while they are out tending the pigs!

My favorite part of the house is the huge back poch overlooking the fields. I would love to sit out here at night with a glass of wine. Apparently when I move to the country I am also going to start drinking a lot of wine. :)

I asked Jim-Bo if he could ever see himself moving to the country. He didn’t answer… but he did buy me a nice little ticket to Widespread Panic at the Tabernacle last weekend (wood tour, for those of you in the know).

City Mouse + Country Mouse = Two very in love little mice.

Hi everyone! I just want to thank you all for the tremendous outpouring of support you gave me about Sister. I appreciate it so much, and it really made the grieving process easier. Thank you so much.

I got this ring off of ETSY last week. It’s such a nice reminder of Sister, and it allows me to keep her with me.

I can’t help but share these little photos of Charlotte with you guys! She is so smart! She learned to fetch is like 10 minutes… I’m such a proud mom!

Here she is with her favorite ball! She is VERY serious about fetching!

Here she is snuggling on my chest. I am VERY serious about snuggling!

Can you see her little face? She is upside down. She is kind of hard to get a picture of since she is so dark

Moving along to more important things…

I wanted to share the latest Chat Room segment with you.

Erin Yabroudy and I went on the show to discuss her starting a team here at Beacham and launching her own website!

We also took a lo0k at her gorgeous listing at 395 Beverly Road. Built by Gail Cook, this is one of the most beautiful homes in Ansley Park. I had the privilege of shooting the home, and I wanted to share a few photos with you.

What doe you guys think? I just love Ansley Park, and this is such a great example of the beautiful homes located there!

My baby, Sister, died last Thursday. I feel like my heart is breaking.

Let me start with the story of how I got Sister, so you can understand why she is so important…

This is Milly. Milly was my dog in college. Unlike most people, I would say I had a pretty crappy college experience. I started at BU and then transfered to UGA. My life at UGA was sad and lonely (except for you Lindley) due to the fact that I transfered and didn’t get a chance to know anybody outside my high school friends.

I got Milly about a month after going to UGA, and she and I did everything together. She went to class with me most of the time… we cleaned my apartment and watched movies and went on car trips. You name it… Milly came. In 2008 Milly was killed by a pit bull I invited in to my home. I had never been exposed to a pit bull before and innocently thought a dog was a dog. As Milly ran up to greet the pit bull, it bit Milly’s neck and she died instantly. I can say without a shadow of a doubt it was the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. I could not see a way to go on: I invited the dog in that killed my Milly and truly accepted all blame for her death. I had killed my best friend. I have never been lower than I was that day.

In an effort to cheer me up/keep me sane, my mom insisted we get a new puppy right away. She and my bffs Brittany and Matthew and I piled in the car and went back to the breeder to get another yorkie. I looked at all the puppies and did not bond with any of them…

I saw this one puppy in the corner but refused to hold her because she looked so much like Milly. (see how similar they look?) When I decided I did not like any of the other puppies I finally asked to hold the last one, and I broke down as soon as I got her in my arms. I kept saying over and over that I couldn’t take the puppy… she just looked too much like Milly. At that moment two things happened. The puppy jumped up and started licking the tears off of my face just as the breeder said, “Well of course she looks like Milly. That’s Milly’s Sister.”

From that day on Sister and I were connected at the hip. I felt like God had given my my best friend again. This was my second chance. I loved Sister as much as I could possibly love her. I slept with her every night and told her I loved her constantly. I call her my angel, and I believe she was.

When Jimmy and I were planning our trip to New York I looked into doggie airfare because I just didn’t want to be without Sister for 10 days. It turns out it would have cost me $450 to take her with me, which was a luxury I could not afford. She spent the holidays with my mom and her dog Tommy (i.e. Sister’s boyfriend). The last day of our trip my mom called and told me that Sister had hurt her hind leg and was running a little funny. We got home late on the night of the 2nd and went straight to Mom’s to get Sister. I saw what Mom was talking about… Sister was running a little funny. As I went to sleep that night with Sister next to me I noticed she was breathing a little funny as well. Early on the morning of the 3rd, Sister and I went over to Treehouse Animal Clinic. I was expecting them to tell me she had fallen or gotten stepped on, etc. At the best I was expecting she needed time, at the worst a small surgery. I was not prepared for the doctor to tell me her condition was neurological. He said one of her eyes was dilated more than the other, which pointed to a neurological condition. The vet took some blood work and started Sister on a course of antibiotics and steroids. I gave her the medicine religiously, and I swear I saw some improvement.

On Thursday the 5th the vet called and said Sister did not have an infection, which meant it truly was a neurological condition. She referred us to Georgia Veterinary Specialist where we met with a neurologist (Jan.9th). I was convinced there was nothing truly wrong with Sister. I was thinking maybe she was tired or injured. I was totally unprepared for his diagnosis, which was Yorkie Encephalitis. The vet said that the only treatment was to start her on a strong dose of steroids, and even then she may only live 4-6 weeks. I would rather have been kicked in the face with a metal boot.

In total disbelief my mom and I headed to Athens to the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine on the morning of the 10th. This is a photo of my sweet Sister on the way to Athens. When we got there I recounted her symptoms, which were: back legs moving at a different rate that the front legs, her body seemed crooked, head tilt, trouble breathing, general confusion and extreem neediness/lack of ability to climb stairs. They did an MRI and spinal tap and came back with the same result. Encephalitis. Instead of explaining it as a death sentence, the vets there seems confident they could help her and prolongue her life with Chemo. They asked us to leave her there with them until the 13th so the could monitor the Chemo injections. Even though I was going to miss her, I agreed.

On the morning of the 12th they called and said Sister was having trouble breathing. They did a chest x-ray, and her lungs were almost full of fluid. Mom, Jimmy and I headed to Athens knowing it was not going to be pleasant. When we got there we were lead in to see Sister in an oxygen container that looked like an incubator. She looked happy and alert. I asked to hold her. As soon as they handed her to me she started panting in the most horrible way. She just could not breathe outside the chamber. That’s when it hit me just how sick she really was. We put her back in the chamber and went into a room to talk. The vet told us that she did not know where the fluid came from or how long it had been there… but I did. I knew her breathing had been off since the night I picked her up on the 2nd. Nobody had thought it was an issue because they could not hear any crackling sounds in her lungs (the sign of fluid). Nobody thought to do a chest x-ray. When I told the vet how long it had been going on she looked disheartened. She said that even if Sister could get over the fluid in her lungs, which was very serious, she was still facing a very dangerous condition with her Encephalitis. It was then I knew she had fought enough. I didn’t want her to go through anything else… because the end would not be good. I wanted to be there with her at the end.

I decided to put her to sleep. They brought her out to me in her favorite orange blanked I had just gotten her for Christmas. They laid her in my arms. I told her how much I loved her. I told her she had saved my life. I told her how grateful I was to be her mom, and how much I would miss her. She died in my arms with me telling her how much I loved her.

Even though I know it was the right thing to do, I feel like there is a hole in my heart, and it physically aches. I miss her all day every day. I miss her at bed time. I miss her sleeping next to me. I miss her in the morning when we would go on Facebook and she would type while I dried my hair. I miss her in the car… I even miss her accidents in the house. I miss her watching over me and making sure I am ok… even though I pray she still does that.

Time has not made it any easier…

Because I could not imagine going through this pain alone, Jimmy and I decided to get a puppy. Her name is Charlotte. She is a malitpoo/mutt/redneck. She is fiesty and bitey and terribly tough and sweet. She likes to eat a lot and lay on her back. She is strong and determined… and she is mine. I love her to death, but GOD do I still miss Sister.

I am trying to take it day by day, and with the help of Charlotte and Jimmy and my family and my amazing Friends, I pray I can get through this. I was having a particularly hard day today, and the pain in my chest had almost become unbearable, when these arrived in the mail…

Capella, thank you so very much for sending just what I needed at the exact moment I needed it. Your brownies gave me the strength to write this post, which I have been dreading. Although it was amazingly sad, I knew it would help me to tell the story of what happened to my sweet Sister. You’re such a good friend. Thank you.

If you guys are looking for me today… I’ll be next to the brownies

Glennis Beacham sold 3198 Habersham Road a few years ago…

Famed photographer Angela West and her husband were the buyers. Angela and her husband have decided to sell the home, and they listed it with Glennis once again. I went to shoot the home last week! I was so excited. i have always loved this house….

Angela West got a BA from UGA and an MFA from Yale. I’ve seen a lot of her pieces at Jackson Fine Art.

Since my main two loves are photography and houses, I was so excited to see the changes she had made to the home. How did her skills as a photographer influence the choices she made in the house? Lucky for you guys I have the before pictures (I know, I spoil you), so you can see for yourselves how skilled Angela is not only at photography, but also at transforming a home! Before the home was done very traditionally. I loved it then, but I am really enjoying Angela’s modern approach to the home.

Here is the kitchen before..

And here is is now. I never get tired of seeing how fresh paint can change a room. I love the bare walls and that simple green vase on top of the cabinets.

The before breakfast area…

I love the paint color and new pillows. Did you see the chairs? The different fabrics on the front and back are really cool. The table is perfect as well. It’s much lighter.

Here is the dining room before. It’s very Traditional with the Oriental rug and furniture.

Here it is now. Obvious changes: wallpaper, curtains, chandelier, larger table, rug removal, de-cluttering. I am usually a fan of rugs, but these hardwoods are so beautiful I am glad we can see them. I believe Angela and her husband had all the floors refinished.

Here is another view of the dining room where you can see Angela’s beautiful photograph on the back wall!

The living room is where you can see the biggest difference. Here is the before picture. I remember being amazed with how large this room was the first time I shot the house.

Here is an additional before picture form the other direction.

Ready to see it now?

Doesn’t that look great? I love the style of this room now, and the painted beams almost seem to disappear. The room is light and airy. They added custom fireplace screens and a built-in bar in the second enclave. Also, isn’t that chandelier beautiful?

I wanted you to see Angela’s photography above the fireplace. Those are the same pieces highlighted above on the Jackson Fine Art website.

Here is a better view of the bar they added.

And I include this overview so you can see how large the room really is, and how functional the room is with this furniture layout. Didn’t she do a great job?

To see more of the amazing rooms in the house, including these…

Well, here we are in the new year! Hi! Are you loving 2012?

I had the nicest Christmas/New Years break with Jimmy. (yea, I know… I talk about Jimmy all the time. What are you gonna do? I’m going to show you guys a house, so I get to talk about Jimmy as much as I want. A deal’s a deal! — see the results.)

We started out our visit in North Carolina where his mom’s family lives. We went to his aunt’s house for lunch. You may remember her from the kitchen she designed in Jimmy’s grandma’s house. She has a great eye for design, and I was really looking forward to seeing her house. Her home used to belong to Jimmy’s grandmother’s sister (great aunt?). She lovingly restored/renovated it and did an amazing job! There were so many unique things about the house I had to take pictures so I could share them with you. I found out later my camera was actually on the brink of death, so forgive me if these pictures are not my best. One more side note… Jimmy’s aunt had an awesome lunch for us. It was so great that I got distracted and forgot to take a picture of the kitchen. #totalfail Don’t blame me though, I was on vacation and didn’t have my head totally in the game. Ha.

This is the foyer, which I love. Why? I love a glass front door. It’s nice to be able to open the wood door and see out to the front yard. I also like the wood floors. The man in the picture is Jimmy’s grandfather. Unfortunately he died before I got to meet him, but everyone in the family raves about how kind he was.

This is the other side of the foyer. I was really drawn to the bronze wallpaper. I tried to get a close up of it…

Aren’t those pretty imperfections?

This is the formal living room. I love those bay windows. They looked like iron to be, but I am not positive. You may notice Jimmy’s sisters in this photo

This is the fireplace in the living room. I loved the carvings on the mantel!

I really like the dining room a lot! The China Cabinets probably had the most space of any I have ever seen.

See?

Here is the solarium. Loving the oversized windows and brick floors. You guys know I am a sucker for brick floors. Duh.

His aunt told me that she chose these Christmas decorations to echo the bronze in the foyer. How clever is that? I would never have thought of it and really admire the fact that she did. The decorations look amazing. Let’s walk outside.

This is the other side of the window we were just looking through…

and here is the back patio. Is that flagstone? Or maybe bluestone? It looks great. I love the size of the stone.

Here is a view of the home from the pond in the back yard. They put in a lot of landscaping that all looks so natural and lush (even in December!).

More landscape and the pond

Lets head back in show I can show you my favorite room!

We are heading up the stairs. I put in this picture of the window seat because that’s Jimmy’s favorite place in the house. He said he would hang out there a lot when he was a little boy…. awww.

We end in my favorite room. She vaulted this ceiling and added the beams, which really opened up the space. The recessed lighting is such a nice touch because it really lightens up the room. We had such a nice time sitting and talking in this room, and before we left we even got to have a fire in that great fireplace! Jimmy’s sisters hung out on that bench seat in the corner. I love it now, but wouldn’t that have been such a cool nook as a kid? Jimmy’s family has been visiting this house for their whole lives and were kind enough to share all their childhood memories with me. I can imagine this would have been quite the place to explore as a child.

Here is a closer look at the craftsmanship on the ceiling. They even had a stained glass window made and put up in the corner. If my camera had not been failing every other shot I would have had a picture of it for you. Sorry! Just believe me that it was beautiful.

Here is the other side of the room, which had great buil-ins! If I were in high school/college I would have done all my studying here… it just makes me feel studious.

A close up of the fireplace where we had the fire…

This is the coolest balcony off the room. It was warm enough to open the doors and go out there for a little while, which was so pleasant!

Finally we have Jimmy just doing a little hanging out in the room. Can’t you imagine him there as a child? No? Let me see if I can help you out a little…

How’s that? I KNOW, RIGHT!!! CUTEST BABY EVER! Thanks for letting me use that picture And thank you to Jimmy’s aunt for having us over for a wonderful holiday lunch! I love your house!

Moving along… What did we do the rest of the break?

I will be out of town next week, so you may miss me here on the blog… but I will not be missing the blog! Why? I’ll be in NYC with my boyfriend. YEA ME!

I got that awesome headband at Flock when we went to Boston! Yes, I finally got to see it!

He’s pretty cute, don’t you think? We are going to New York for Phish, and I am so excited! Jimmy also figured it out so we can stay in the Four Seasons there, which is pretty amazing. (I already referenced that here… so sorry if you’re a reg and I keep repeating the same thing OVER and OVER… that’s what happens when I’m excited.)

If you look closely you can see me in my NYE dress. See, I told you I was also going to wear it to a Christmas party.

And any of you looking for a little redneck in your christmas, (let’s be honest, aren’t we all?) you can feast your eyes on us at the jean on jean party my friend threw the other night. Yummy.

Well, that was a fairly boring post, but it’s 4:30 on my last day of the year, so what do you expect? Don’t drink too much eggnog/get caught under the mistletoe with an undesirable.

I plan on spending a lot of time in the eggnog/under the mistletoe… so forget what I said.

See you all in 2012.

Merry Christmas one and all.

Speaking of Christmas, I got a nice little present in the mail last night. A $758.93 water bill. Thank you so much City of Atlanta (Department of Watershed Management)! How did you know this was just what I wanted? NOT.

This is where I live. I love it here. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths.

It’s the perfect home for me and Sister…. which is great since we are the only people who live there.

Yes, one person and a 2 pound dog racked up an almost $800 water bill. How?

Well, around September 15th, I got a bill for @500. I called to dispute the charges. I had had a leaky toilet in July, but had quickly gotten a plumber out to the house to fix the problem and replace all the valves on all the toilets just to be safe. The lady I spoke with said that I could appeal my bill. I paid them $100 somewhere around October 1st. They sent a man out to look at my meter and determined that there was nothing wrong with the meter, so it must be my problem. On October 14th… I remember because it was my birthday, I got a letter in the mail saying if I did not pay the entire charge by October 15th they would shut off my water and then charge me the entire bill plus a reconnect fee to turn the water back on. Thank God they accept credit cards.

Around November 15th I got a water bill for $463.02. I called the water company again. I asked if I could appeal this bill. They said no because my last appeal still had not been finalized, and you couldn’t have two appeals at once. She suggested that I wait until my December bill and see if there was a noticeable difference in my meter reading. I did not pay any money on that bill, and she assured me they would not turn off my water. She also assured me there was a leak in my house. To be on the safe side I got another plumber to come out to the house and look, and he also said there were no leaks.

Yesterday I got this in the mail. After I stopped crying (true) I checked all the toilets again. There were no leaks.

Here is the chart showing my water usage. You can see that I had a toilet leak in July, which I got fixed.

My neighbor has a family of 4 and has an average water bill of $120 a month.

This may be more information than you wanted to know, but I added up my water usage, and this is what I got.

Showers: 8-9 a week, 36 a month

Toilet Flushes (sorry to share this information): @3 a day, 21 a week, 84 a month

Washing Machine Runs: On the high side we will say 4 a week, 16 a month

Dishwasher: 2 a week, 8 a month.

I can’t think of any other time I use water unless I an drinking it or rinsing my dishes. Sister gets 1 tiny bowl of water a day, and I am thinking of asking her to cut back. JK

I had another plumber come to my house today.

He took this picture of the meter. He watched it for @20 minutes and there was no change (meaning no leaks). Then he had his assistant flush a toilet and the meter rose slightly. This means there are no leaks in the house.

We wrote the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management a letter today explaining the situation. We also called. They have agreed to let me play $120 a month until my hearing, which could be in a month or two. Any advice you guys have would be very very helpful. Have you had to deal with anything like this? I have no idea what the hearing will entail, but I am gathering as much evidence as possible. $800 is insane.

If I don’t get this resolved, then I will soon be selling a very small dog who drinks too much water.

KIDDING! I would NEVER sell Sister, but could I interest you in a 3 year old flatscreen/anything else worth $800? Going once….
